Typically, they involve inserting breast implants through a small incision in the armpit, often under local anaesthetic, with the promise of a fast procedure and minimal downtime.
Many women researching breast implants in Dubai come across these techniques and naturally ask whether they represent the newest or best option available.
While these procedures are being actively promoted by certain providers, there are several reasons why I personally do not offer this approach in my practice.
The Importance of Surgical Visibility
In my practice, breast augmentation is most commonly performed using an incision placed in the inframammary fold (IMF) — the natural crease beneath the breast.This approach provides excellent visibility and surgical control, allowing the surgeon to carefully create the implant pocket while working in harmony with the patient’s natural anatomy.
When implants are inserted through a small incision in the armpit, the surgeon is essentially working through a long tunnel with limited direct visualisation. Much of the dissection is performed through spreading and pushing tissues rather than clearly seeing the structures involved.
From a surgical perspective, this can make it more difficult to achieve the most precise pocket placement, which is essential for obtaining a balanced and natural aesthetic result.
Poor visibility may increase the risk of implant malposition, asymmetry, or suboptimal positioning of the implant.
Limitations in Implant Size and Options
Another important consideration is implant size selection.
Procedures performed through very small armpit incisions can significantly restrict the range of implant sizes that can be inserted. Even moderately sized implants may be difficult to place through such a limited access point.
For many patients considering breast augmentation in Dubai, having flexibility in implant size and shape is essential in achieving their desired outcome.
Using the inframammary fold incision allows the surgeon to safely insert a full range of implant sizes, ensuring that the procedure can be tailored to each individual patient.
Local Anaesthetic vs General Anaesthetic
Many of these so-called “quick breast implant” procedures are performed under local anaesthetic.
While this may sound appealing in theory, in reality many patients prefer to undergo breast augmentation under a short general anaesthetic, which is extremely safe when administered by experienced anaesthetists.
A general anaesthetic allows the patient to remain completely comfortable during the procedure and enables the surgeon to operate with optimal precision.Most patients are surprised to learn that modern breast augmentation surgery is already a relatively quick procedure. Many patients are able to return home the same day, while others may stay overnight for observation depending on their individual circumstances.
Do Patients Actually Prefer Smaller Scars?
One of the main selling points of armpit-based breast implant techniques is the promise of avoiding a scar on the breast itself.
However, in my experience, this is rarely a concern for most patients once they understand how discreet an inframammary fold incision actually is.
The scar sits naturally in the crease under the breast and is typically very well hidden.
In fact, I have never had a patient return after surgery and say that they wished their scar had been slightly smaller or that they regretted having a short hospital stay.
For most women, the quality of the final result matters far more than the exact location of the incision.

Breast augmentation remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures worldwide and continues to evolve as new techniques are developed.
However, when evaluating new trends in surgery, it is important to prioritise safety, precision, and predictable resultsover marketing claims of speed or convenience.
For this reason, I continue to believe that breast augmentation using the inframammary fold approach under general anaesthetic provides the most reliable and aesthetic outcomes for the majority of patients.
